The HPC has recovered from a fire suppression event in the campus data center during the evening of February 6, 2025.
2025-03-03 2:46 am — The full fix for the permission issue is more complex than first estimated. We've got a plan, and hopefully it will be in place before March 7. See the bottom of this page for earlier notes.
2025-02-22 11:35 am — We've made a temporary workaround for the permission issue that should allow the vast majority of people to resume normal work. A full fix will hopefully be implemented early in the week of February 24. See the bottom of this page for earlier notes.
2025-02-21 11:00 pm — File syncs and reconfiguration completed, but we've got some permission issues with the new folders. Nobody has lost data, but we need to resolve this issue before returning to service.
2025-02-19 1:45 pm — We're in the final stages of migrating data from the old file server to the new one, and changing settings on all the compute nodes to match. We hope to return to service no later than late afternoon on Friday, February 21.
2025-02-12 5:45 pm — the central HPC file server replacement drives have been installed and validated at a hardware level. We're going to do some more testing before returning anything to service. We may also use this time to fully transfer to new file server equipment.
2025-02-07 1:00 pm — the central HPC file server is currently offline pending delivery of replacement drives. No data loss has been detected, but we'll keep it offline until replacement drives have been installed and validated. As much as we'd like to restore access to your data immediately, there's a risk of further drive failures if we move too quickly.
